He knew the place well.  Even as a child his folks would bring him to this place in hopes that their little boy would be healed. But it never happened. After years the young boy, now a man, didn’t know anything else but to hope in the “well”.

It was a common spot for the sick and crippled, a place where many of the upper crust never ventured to see.  But now after many years of sitting by this pool this lame man would encounter someone so far above the “elite” that it would result in his healing.

For all his life, the waters of the Pool of Bethesda were an illusion.  Hopes were dashed as another stepped before him into the stirred waters.  But TODAY EVERYTHING WOULD BE DIFFERENT!

I’m certain you are familiar with the story found in John 5.   What the waters could not do, JESUS DID!  The encounter between Jesus and the lame man resulted in the remarkable and the astonishing! 

He is given no name!  His circle of friends has shrunk over the years limiting him to those who are in a similar condition.  It seems this chapter of his life is about to close with no one taking notice. But THIS IS A NEW DAY! What the waters could not do will be surprised by this strange man called Jesus!  

And so it is today. Jesus comes to provide what the waters cannot!

Yes, he was healed but the more sublime truth here is that the waters were not enough!  The pool with its reputation was simply not enough to satisfy this man’s need.  Today, our “pool” is no different!  The columns of security that we though would never fail are failing.  Government is increasingly becoming more corrupt, the health care system is in shambles, crime is more violent and the justice system more inept. The “pools” we relied on are not “stirring.” They are becoming stagnant and putrid.  There is no healing, no reliable provision. And moreover, when there is some benefit offered, others step in front of us.

But you as His child were never destined to be limited to the “moving of the waters!”  You have the KING OF THE UNIVERSE living in you as his child!  The one who healed the lame man is your Rock!  He is your daily bread!  He is your Great Physician!  He is the Anchor your soul clings to in these days of uncertainty! Not the Republicans!  Not the Democrats!  Not your hospital or insurance policy, not even the police force and definitely not the shelves at Walmart!

Now I ask, “DO YOU BELIEVE THIS”? Do you really believe that Jesus is your strong tower, your daily bread?

I have a strong hunch that we are going to find out very soon. 

To walk with Jesus especially in these days is always counterintuitive.  It collides with the facts on the ground.  The world says, “build bigger barns.”  Jesus says, “Give it away!”  The world says buy and arsenal, Jesus says, “trust me!” The world says, enter the debate and conqueror your foe with mean words, Jesus says, “turn your cheek.” His kingdom was never meant to coincide with the nations of the world and thus He announces a different narrative using people just like you!

This whole scenario speaks to your “daily provision!”  When others are troubled because they know that bigger barns are useless, you can remain calm and confident that that Lord is your source because you walk in that illogical obedience to another King.

So, remain strange!  Love when others hate!  Give when others horde. We gave when gasoline was $2.50 a gallon and he provided!  He will do the same now!  His precepts are not dictated to by economic conditions!  On the contrary, they dictate the means to abundant supply when the waters fail.  Keep tithing to your church!  Feed the faith of generosity by giving even beyond your means and see if he will provide beyond your wildest imagination! 

If He healed you while you had insurance, can he not heal you without it? If he healed you from Covid without the shot, can he not heal you from all the effects of that shot as well? Does a shot, insurance, high walls around your house a fat bank account determine whether He cares for you or not?

Remember, it was Jesus who walked on the water.  Come the collapse of our civil and cultural pillars, He will remain unmoved! 

The “waters” are drying up, but His abundance in all things abides forever to those who live in the new narrative!

CUANDO EL AGUA NO ES SUFICIENTE

 

Él conocía bien el lugar. Incluso cuando era niño, sus padres lo traían a este lugar con la esperanza de que su pequeño fuera sanado. Pero nunca sucedió. Después de años el joven, ya hombre, no sabía más que esperar en el “pozo”.

Era un lugar común para los enfermos y lisiados, un lugar que muchos miembros de la alta sociedad nunca se aventuraban a ver. Pero ahora, después de muchos años de estar sentado junto al estanque, este hombre cojo se encontraría con alguien tan por encima de la “élite” que resultaría en su curación.

Durante toda su vida, las aguas del estanque de Betsaida fueron una ilusión. Las esperanzas se desvanecieron cuando otro se adelantaba a las aguas agitadas. ¡Pero HOY TODO SERÍA DIFERENTE!

Estoy seguro de que estás familiarizado con la historia que se encuentra en Juan 5. ¡Lo que las aguas no pudieron hacer, JESÚS LO HIZO! ¡El encuentro entre Jesús y el cojo resultó en algo extraordinario y sorprendente!

¡No se le da ningún nombre! Su círculo de amigos se ha reducido a lo largo de los años, limitándolo a aquellos que se encuentran en una condición similar. Parece que este capítulo de su vida está a punto de cerrarse sin que nadie se dé cuenta. ¡Pero ESTE ES UN NUEVO DÍA! ¡Lo que las aguas no pudieron hacer tú serás sorprendido por este extraño hombre llamado Jesús!

Y así es hoy. ¡Jesús viene a proporcionar lo que las aguas no pueden!

Sí, fue sanado pero la verdad más sublime aquí es que ¡las aguas no fueron suficientes! El estanque con su reputación simplemente no era suficiente para satisfacer las necesidades de este hombre. ¡Hoy, nuestro “estanque” no es diferente! Las columnas de seguridad que pensábamos que nunca fallarían están fallando. El gobierno es cada vez más corrupto, el sistema de salud está en ruinas, el crimen es más violento y el sistema de justicia más inepto. Los “estanques” en los que confiamos no están “agitados”. Se están estancando y pudriendo. No hay curación ni provisión confiable. Y es más, cuando se ofrece algún beneficio, otros se nos adelantan.

¡Pero tú, como Su hijo, nunca estuviste destinado a limitarte al “movimiento de las aguas”! ¡Tienes al REY DEL UNIVERSO viviendo en ti como su hijo! ¡El que sanó al cojo es tu Roca! ¡Él es tu pan de cada día! ¡Él es tu gran médico! ¡Él es el Ancla a la que se aferra tu alma en estos días de incertidumbre! ¡No los republicanos! ¡No los demócratas! ¡Ni tu hospital ni tu póliza de seguro, ni siquiera la policía y definitivamente tampoco los estantes de Walmart!

Ahora pregunto: “¿CREES ESTO”? ¿De verdad crees que Jesús es tu torre fuerte, tu pan de cada día?

Tengo el fuerte presentimiento de que lo descubriremos muy pronto.

Caminar con Jesús, especialmente en estos días, siempre es contrario a la intuición. Choca con los hechos sobre el terreno. El mundo dice: “construyan graneros más grandes”. Jesús dice: “¡Dalo!” El mundo dice compra un arsenal, Jesús dice: “¡Confía en mí!” El mundo dice, entra al debate y vence a tu enemigo con palabras malas, Jesús dice, “pon la mejilla”. ¡Su reino nunca tuvo la intención de coincidir con las naciones del mundo y por eso anuncia una narrativa diferente usando personas como tú!

¡Todo este escenario habla de tu “provisión diaria”! Cuando otros están preocupados porque saben que los graneros más grandes son inútiles, puedes permanecer tranquilo y confiado en que ese Señor es tu fuente porque caminas en esa obediencia ilógica a otro Rey.

Entonces, ¡sigue siendo extraño! ¡Ama cuando otros odian! Da cuando otros ahorcan. ¡Damos cuando la gasolina costaba $2.50 el galón y él proveyó! ¡Él hará lo mismo ahora! ¡Sus preceptos no están dictados por las condiciones económicas! Por el contrario, dictan los medios para un suministro abundante cuando las aguas fallan. ¡Sigue diezmando a tu iglesia! ¡Alimenta la fe de la generosidad dando incluso más allá de tus posibilidades y ve si él proveerá más allá de su imaginación más loca!

Si Él te sanó mientras tenías seguro, ¿no puede sanarte sin él? Si él te curó de Covid sin la inyección, ¿no podrá curarte también de todos los efectos de esa inyección? ¿Una vacuna, un seguro, los altos muros alrededor de tu casa y una abultada cuenta bancaria determinan si Él se preocupa por ti o no?

Recuerde, fue Jesús quien caminó sobre el agua. Cuando se derrumben nuestros pilares civiles y culturales, ¡Él permanecerá impasible!

¡Las “aguas” se están secando, pero Su abundancia en todas las cosas permanece para siempre para aquellos que viven en la nueva narrativa!
